collagecollage

Saturday October 17th from 2-4pm! Paulina Event-FUN!

On Saturday October 17th from 2pm-4pm Erin Boniferro from Collage Collage and myself will be hosting a Paulina Petersen event for kids at Collage Collage which is located on 621 Kingsway and is right on the corner of 15th & Fraser here in Vancouver. We invite you to come and do drawings of things that start with your favorite letter with us, I will read ‘Paulina P. (for Petersen)’ and of course be more than happy to sign copies of the book and answer any questions you should have… about anything really. But please no math word problems about trains and jars of quarters and apples. Also we will be giving out free Paulina Posters fresh off the press! Yey!

By the way, if you haven’t heard  of the fabulous fabulous new store-gallery-workshop called ‘Collage Collage’ you should seriously check it out because it is fabulous. … but I’m pretty sure I already mentioned that. If you live in Vancouver and you have kids, or if you are just into cool things and making art or you aren’t yet but you want to learn how to, DO check this place out. It just opened up very recently  and is run by Erin Boniferro who is very passionate about what she is doing. She has put a lot of research and effort into this endevour she has undertaken and it sure shows. There are classes for children that could be taken by adults it seems, there is a very cleverly designed art gallery ONLY for kids, and also one not only for kids (phew), jars and jars of extraordinary craft and art supplies and books that I love love love! Last time I was there I purchased two books; one of these was a book I had not even known was out and about illustrated by one of my favorite ever illustrators Marc Boutavant. It is called ‘For just one day‘ and I think it’s the bees knees! So good! Amazing. Ok. I will stop now. GO THERE!

News: My site gets props on Killabeez

header-logo

So it appears that somebody at Killahbeez which is this online magazine reviewed my site and really liked some of my work (but not all of it :) ). But then again the parts that they liked they seemed to like a lot because they sure posted a whole bunch of my work up there. Since no one had contacted me regarding this I had no idea it was out there.  So when I just found it, it was pretty entertaining. Unfortunately they refer to my illustrations as prints, which they aren’t, but hey, some of them could be eventually! The good news is that the reviewer did really seem to like my books which is cool, and hey, I appreciate the honesty. So thanks for the shout out. Send me a note next time so I know it’s out there?

News: The ECUAD viewbook is out! With my Pattern!… Again! :)

In 2008 I got commissioned by Emily Carr University of Art & Design do to a pattern for the School’s viewbook. It turned out nice and so the result was that I got asked to do yet another pattern for their 2009/10 viewbook this year’s theme being ‘Greymatter’.

I have to say, that it looks really great. Cari Bird the head Graphic Designer for ECUAD is really good at what she does and a real pleasure to work with.

News: W.O.T.S.

Yey! I will be reading in the 'Raise-a-Reader' corner again!

So here are finally some pics of W.O.T.S. that I thought I was going to put up right the evening of the event. But…

First of all let me start of by saying that I almost didn’t make it to my reading for this in time, because I managed to temporarily jam my bike pump and one of my tires was all out of air. So if it wouldn’t be thanks to my coolio neighbours Katie and Marc who luckily had a pump things would have kind of sucked. Buuuut, as it turns out i got there just in time. The weather was perfect again, like last year. Sooooo nice out! My reading was really fun, and this time I actually made use of the microphone for the first time, which was kind of cool, but kind of weird too. I read ‘Paulina P. (for Petersen)’ and then since there really weren’t too many questions, I upon popular demand, (ha ha), also read ‘The Day it all blew Away’.

My favorite audience participation member was Albert, who also later sent me some photos that we took of me and him. We didn’t think to take any of Alberts Children, who the reading was really ‘supposed’ to be for, but who says Kids books are just for kids anyways? Certainly not me! :) So thank you Albert and family for making my reading wayyy more fun! Also a big thank you to my friend Allison who came by that day for general morale, Cody, Tim, and everyone from W.O.T.S. for letting me be part of this again.

After my performance I checked out a panel on Kids Magazines, perused the different magazine tents and hung out with Dimiter and Jillian at the Simply Read Books tent for a bit. Also I chatted with the guys from Tradewind Books about their books for a while, because I really loved one of the books in particular they just put out. It’s called ‘Viva Zapata‘, and is a beautifully illustrated, written and designed book about a fictional episode in the life of Emiliano Zapata. It’s really quite something. Illustrated masterfully by Stefan Czernecki.

News: I Heart Craft Fair Pics

IHBC sept 26th posterSo once again the lovely Charlotte and Co. put together an ‘I heart Crafts Fair’ (this time at the Wise Hall for the first time ever), and once again it was really nice to attend and see all the usual crafters and also meet a bunch of new people as always… I was basically just selling my two books and also some T-shirts I made, and a couple of prints. I took some photos of the event here, but really I should learn how to use my camera better. …. If only there could be two of me… all the things I could learn and get better at. Also I just wanted to give a bit shout out thank you to everyone who is always soooo super supportive of what I do. It’s really good to hear that people are liking what you do every once in a while, and it means a lot to me when people who have the first book are buying the new book without even looking at it that much, just because they kind of seem to trust me in a way, … that it won’t suck. Thank you!! :)

Oh, also I just checked out my friend Georgie Russel’s new website for her clothing line ‘Hand and Shadow’ that Julia Freyer put together for her, and what a shocker… it looks awesome, as well as all her new pieces in it. If you need a really cool new T-shirt, go check it out!
